The College of Family Physicians of Canada welcomes Dr. Michael Green as its 2023 to 2024 President

2023-11-03

Mississauga, ON, The College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) is pleased to announce Dr. Mike Green is the new President and Chair of the Board of Directors for 2023 to 2024.

Dr. Green is an experienced family physician, educator, and researcher with a passion for improving health care. He earned his medical degree from the University of British Columbia and completed his residency training in family medicine at Memorial University of Newfoundland. He received his Certification from the College of Family Physicians of Canada in 1995 and Fellowship in 2011.

Dr. Green has a long-standing commitment to community and Indigenous health. He is a family doctor at the Queen’s Family Health Team in Kingston, Ontario, and served as a medical officer with Indigenous Services Canada’s First Nations and Inuit Health Branch. He spent eight years in Moose Factory, Ontario, including offering fly-in care to remote Indigenous communities.

“Living and working in Moose Factory and the Mushkegowuk Territory, you were always faced with the legacy of colonization,” said Dr. Green. “You could really see how the move away from traditional culture and activities had a negative impact. Many of the communities were actively working to regain control of services to the community and when that was successful, you could see the positive impacts it made. This really impressed on me how the conditions people were dealing with were the product of government policy both past and present and that to make a real difference work had to be done at that level.”

Dr. Green was a member of the CFPC Indigenous Health Committee and Patient’s Medical Home Steering Committee. He recently completed his term as the Brian Hennen Chair and Head of the Department of Family Medicine at Queen’s University. He is a professor in the Departments of Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences at Queen’s. Dr. Green has a passion for research with and is a senior adjunct scientist at the ICES. His research covers a range of health and policy areas including primary care, quality of care, health equity, and Indigenous health.

Join us in welcoming a vibrant leader who embodies passion, experience, and dedication to improving health care in Canada.

Dr. Green served as Secretary-Treasurer and Director on the CFPC Board of Directors for 2021 to 2022 and President-Elect for 2022 to 2023.
