Section of Residents Council – 2013-2014
Updates – Biannual Meeting
The Section of Resident (SOR) Representatives from the 17 schools across the country met in Mississauga on September 15-16, 2013 for our biannual meeting. We were very fortunate to be joined Dr. Francine Lemire (Executive Director and CEO of the CFPC), Dr. Paul Rainsberry (Associate Executive Director of Academic Family Medicine), Dr. Tim Allen (member, Working Group on Certification Process) and Karen Dowsett (Exams Manager) to bring updates on a variety of topics including Special Interest in Focused Practice and the new CACs, and to answer questions on the Harmonized Exam.
Other topics discussed were Duty Hours, for which a Taskforce was created to evaluate the literature and create a statement on behalf of all Canadian Family Medicine Residents. We also discussed expansion issues at various sites, optimal academic days and the use and implementation of field notes. These topics will be discussed with program directors at our November meeting in an effort to address residents concerns.
