The College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) commends the Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC) on its mental health strategy entitled Changing Directions, Changing Lives: The Mental Health Strategy for Canada released today.

A group of eight national health organizations representing various health practitioners today sent a joint letter to the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, the Hon. Jason Kenney, asking the Minister to rescind the planned cancellation of supplemental health benefits to refugee claimants under the Interim Federal Health Program. The cancellation of these health benefits is scheduled to occur June 30, 2012.

(November 22, 2012, Mississauga, ON) Together with the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse (CCSA), the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) is pleased to announce a valuable new resource to assist family physicians and other health professionals detect and address harmful alcohol consumption among their patients.
Dr. Pierre Delva, a passionate advocate for community health and family medicine, passed away on April 5 after a brief illness. Dr. Delva will be remembered fondly by many of his colleagues and former students within the College.

The news of the sudden death of Professor Barbara Starfield, apparently due to a coronary event while swimming at her California home on Friday, 10 June 2011, came as a shock. Her passing is an irreplaceable loss for those of us in the global community who care deeply about health care and equity.

It is with sadness that the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) acknowledges the passing of Dr Ian McWhinney on September 28, 2012 at the age of 85.
The College of Family Physicians of Canada and its members extend their sympathies to the family, friends, and colleagues of the late Jack Layton in these letters by Dr. Rob Boulay, CFPC President and Dr. Calvin Gutkin, CFPC Executive Director and CEO.

The College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) is proud to announce the names of the 2011 Family Physicians of the Year - 10 of the most exceptional family physicians from across the country. Every year, the College presents the Reg L. Perkin Award to one family physician from each province in recognition of his/her outstanding patient care; significant contributions to the health and well-being of their respective communities; and commitment to family medicine teaching and research. Award recipients are nominated by their colleagues, patients, community leaders and the CFPC’s provincial chapters.
