Canada’s Family Physicians of the Year – Reg L. Perkin Award, FMF 2012 Montreal

This award is supported by the CFPC and The CFPC Research & Education Foundation.

The Family Physician of the Year awards, named in honour of Dr. Reg L. Perkin, CFPC Executive Director from 1985 to 1996, recognize outstanding CFPC family physician members who exemplify the best of what being a family doctor is all about, including exceptional care of patients combined with a significant contribution to the health and well being of communities and/or society in general. 

Canada’s Family Physicians of the Year may be nominated by their peers for:

  • Providing exceptional care to their patients
  • Making meaningful contributions to the health and well-being of their communities 
  • Dedicating themselves as researchers and educators of future generations of family doctors
  • Exemplifying the four principles of Family Medicine:
    • they must be skilled clinicians
    • community-based
    • act as a resource to a practice population
    • recognize the central importance of the doctor/patient relationship

Each of the CFPC's Provincial Chapters will select a Family Physician of the Year for its respective province or jurisdiction. 

Nominations

Nominations for Canada’s Family Physicians of the Year are invited from all CFPC members. Health care colleagues, community leaders and patients are encouraged to submit letters of support for this nomination.

Nominations are to be submitted to the Provincial Chapter office in which the nominee is a member. The deadlines for submission vary according to each Provincial Chapter. Please contact the Provincial Chapter of your nominee to confirm the 2012 deadline date.

The Chapters will submit their nomination for this award to the CFPC national office prior to May 15, 2012.  The Honours and Awards committee will approve the nomination and inform the recipients in writing in June 2012.
