ALSO Instructors help to prepare health care providers for obstetrical emergencies. Join our team of dedicated healthcare professionals by attending the ALSO Instructor Course. 

Who should attend? 

Eligible attendees are physicians, certified midwives, or registered nurses who have successfully completed an ALSO Provider Course. Achieving full-approved instructor status is a three-step process:

  1. Successful completion of an ALSO Provider Course
  2. Successful completion of an ALSO Instructor Course
  3. Successful completion of new teaching requirements within one year of completing the instructor course*

*Teaching performance must be evaluated by an attending advisory faculty member, and evaluation of the performance submitted to the CFPC recommending the candidate for approved instructor status. If teaching requirements are not accomplished within one year of ALSO Instructor Course completion, status will revert to the Provider level.  

What material does the course cover?

This one-day faculty development course provides the foundational skills required to effectively deliver the ALSO® program to health care providers, including:

  • Principles of adult learning
  • Effective facilitation skills
  • Providing feedback to learners
  • Delivery of obstetrical case studies and intrapartum fetal surveillance workshops
  • Use of maternal fetal mannequins
  • Running mega-delivery testing stations and more!

Do I earn Mainpro credits for attending?

Advanced life support and resuscitation programs eligible for Mainpro-C credits, Mainpro-M1 credits and/or Mainpro-M2 credits.

Earn 0.5 Mainpro-C credits (and 0.5 bonus Mainpro-M1 credits) per hour of participation upon completing the ALSO Instructors Course. During each five-year Mainpro cycle, you can claim up to a maximum of 16 Mainpro-C credits for attending advanced life support provider, re-certification, or instructor training. Once the limit has been reached, participation shall be recognized with Mainpro-M1 credit. For details, please click here.

Members of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) are eligible to receive 7.25 Prescribed Credit Hours for attendance at this meeting due to reciprocal agreement with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC).
