ALSO® - Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics
The College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) believes that Canadian women and their families benefit from the standardized, collegial and multidisciplinary approach to maternity care that the ALSO® curriculum engenders.
What is it?
Offered in 47 countries, Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO®) is a structured, evidence-based, multidisciplinary educational program that teaches the cognitive and procedural skills necessary to effectively manage obstetrical care emergencies.
Who is it for?
Developed by family physicians, ALSO curriculum is relevant to all members of the obstetrical care team, including family physicians, labour and delivery nurses, midwives, and other health care providers. The program also serves as an aid for training residents in obstetrics and family medicine.
2014: Bidding a fond farewell to ALSO… and welcoming ALARM to the College Family
We are pleased to announce that the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) and the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada (SOGC) will join forces to offer the Advances in Labour and Risk Management (ALARM) program as the single pan-Canadian intrapartum training program. The change takes effect July 1, 2014.
As a result of this collaborative venture, the CFPC will no longer offer the Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) program once the change occurs. In the interim, the CFPC will continue to support those wishing to offer ALSO training in Canada; requests for program information can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
